Understanding Your Rights After an Injury
If you were hurt because someone else was careless, you may have the right to file a personal injury claim. These cases are based on the principle of negligence, which is the failure to use reasonable care that results in harm to another person.
In Minnesota, victims can pursue compensation for:
- Medical bills, rehabilitation, and long-term care needs
- Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
- Pain, suffering, and loss of quality of life
- Property damage and other out-of-pocket expenses
The process generally involves filing a claim with the at-fault party’s insurer, negotiating for a fair settlement, and, when necessary, filing a lawsuit. Having an experienced trial firm like Bolt Law Firm on your side ensures your case is documented properly, deadlines are met, and insurers are held to account.
Our attorneys understand Minnesota’s comparative fault rule, statute of limitations, and the many tactics insurance carriers use to minimize payouts. We handle the details so you can focus on recovery.

Personal Injury FAQ
How Much Does It Cost to Hire Bolt Law Firm?
We handle personal injury cases on a contingency fee basis. That means you pay no upfront fees and no attorney fees unless we win compensation for you. Your consultation is always free.
What Types of Damages Can I Recover?
You may be eligible to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, property damage, and other financial losses. In cases involving permanent injury or death, additional damages may apply.
How Long Do I Have to File a Claim in Minnesota?
In most personal injury cases, Minnesota law gives you six years from the date of the injury to file a lawsuit. However, many exceptions exist, especially in cases involving minors, government entities, bars or alcohol establishments, uninsured/underinsured motorists or wrongful death. It’s best to speak with an attorney as soon as possible to protect your rights and so that your attorney can preserve evidence on your behalf. In some cases, the law requires a claimant to notify another entity within six months of the date of injury.
Will My Case Go to Trial?
Most cases are resolved through settlement, but we prepare every case as though it will go to trial. This approach strengthens your position during negotiations and ensures we’re ready if litigation becomes necessary.
What Should I Do If the Other Driver Is Uninsured or Underinsured?
You may still be able to recover through your own uninsured or underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. Our firm handled UM/UIM claims and can help you evaluate options.
